Fulham has successfully secured the signings of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid, marking a significant double acquisition for the club. Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that both players are set to join the Cottagers at Craven Cottage.

Negotiations and Challenges

Following the appointment of new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, Fulham intensified their efforts to bring in the Real Madrid duo, with TEAMtalk reporting that negotiations were progressing well. The pursuit of Garcia, a 22-year-old striker, was particularly competitive, as he attracted interest from several European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Fenerbahce. Additionally, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho initially wanted to keep Garcia in his first-team setup. However, Madrid's decision to sign Levante striker Carlos Espi, who was also sought after by Leeds United and Premier League teams Hull City and Brighton, ultimately facilitated Garcia's transfer.

Garcia expressed a strong preference to reunite with Arbeloa if he were to leave Madrid, which played a crucial role in his decision. Fulham has agreed to a deal worth €40 million (£34 million) for the striker, which includes add-ons of €2 million and a 30% sell-on clause for Real Madrid.

Palacios Joins the Cottagers

In addition to Garcia, Fulham has also secured the signing of midfielder Cesar Palacios. Arbeloa had identified Palacios as a top target during discussions about his role as head coach, having previously worked with him in Madrid’s academy. Despite competition from Como and Cesc Fabregas, Fulham has managed to finalize a €10 million deal for the 21-year-old.

Both transfers include significant future protections for Real Madrid, with sources confirming that a 30% sell-on clause is included in both agreements. The Cottagers may not be finished in the transfer market, as reports suggest they are pursuing a third player from Los Blancos, which could further enhance their squad.
