FIFA torches Argentina with suspensions and $560K fine for disgusting World Cup Final behavior - The Mirror US
FIFA has suspended several Argentine players and fined the team $560,000 due to their behavior during the World Cup Final, which has drawn significant criticism.

FIFA has imposed significant penalties on the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) following unsportsmanlike conduct during the World Cup Final against Spain. The governing body has fined the AFA $321,000 and suspended four players in response to the chaotic scenes that unfolded after the match.
Post-Match Fracas
The World Cup Final, held at MetLife Stadium, concluded with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0, a match that was largely uneventful until the final whistle. Tensions escalated dramatically when Leandro Paredes engaged in a physical altercation, throwing punches and tackling Spain's Gavi to the ground. This incident ignited a brawl that involved several players, including Nahuel Molina and Thiago Almada, as well as assistant coach Roberto Ayala.
FIFA's Disciplinary Actions
In light of the post-match violence, FIFA appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to investigate the events. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee determined that the AFA had violated multiple regulations concerning team misconduct and security at matches. As a result, the AFA has been ordered to limit attendance at their next two home matches to 50 percent capacity. Additionally, $100,000 of the fine must be allocated to initiatives aimed at combating discrimination.
Paredes received the harshest punishment, facing a 10-match suspension and a $90,000 fine. Molina was handed a seven-match ban along with the same financial penalty. The sanctions reflect FIFA's commitment to maintaining order and sportsmanship in football.
