FIFA to put more World Cup tickets on sale for all games - ESPN

FIFA has decided to release more tickets for all World Cup matches, allowing fans greater access to the games. This move aims to enhance the experience for supporters and ensure fuller stadiums.

FIFA is set to release additional tickets for the upcoming World Cup, following backlash from fans over the introduction of new, higher-priced ticket categories. The governing body of soccer announced that more tickets will be available starting at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday for all 104 matches across Categories 1, 2, and 3, as well as the newly introduced "front category" pricing.

Fan Reactions and Pricing Concerns

The addition of the new ticket category has led to dissatisfaction among fans, who expressed their frustration online. Many believe that the premium seats in the categories they had purchased were not made available to them, resulting in less desirable seating assignments. In December, FIFA initially offered tickets ranging from $140 for Category 3 seats to a staggering $8,680 for the final match. However, when ticket sales resumed on April 1, prices surged to as high as $10,990.

Sales Performance and Attendance Projections

In related news, The Athletic reported that ticket sales for the U.S. opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, California, are not meeting expectations. A document shared with local organizers on April 10 indicated that only 40,934 tickets had been sold for the U.S.-Paraguay match, while 50,661 tickets were sold for the Iran-New Zealand match on April 15. FIFA estimates that SoFi Stadium's World Cup capacity is approximately 69,650, although this figure may be subject to change.

For the U.S.-Paraguay match, ticket prices were set at $1,120, $1,940, and $2,735, while tickets for the Iran-New Zealand game were priced at $140, $380, and $450. As FIFA prepares to release more tickets, fans will be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds.
