FIFA announces Super Bowl-style World Cup final halftime show featuring Madonna, Shakira and BTS - Yahoo Sports
FIFA has revealed plans for a Super Bowl-style halftime show at the World Cup final, featuring performances by global superstars Madonna, Shakira, and BTS.
The upcoming World Cup final is set to feature an exciting halftime show, headlined by iconic artists Madonna, Shakira, and the popular boy band BTS. This marks the first time FIFA will incorporate a Super Bowl-style concert into the final, which will take place at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19.
FIFA's Commitment to Education
According to FIFA, the halftime show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to provide children with access to education and soccer. FIFA president Gianni Infantino emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it will unite “music and football on the biggest stage in sport for a very special cause.” He expressed his belief that “every child should have the opportunity to dream, and together we can help make that possible” in a post on Instagram.
A Unique Addition to the World Cup
The halftime show will be curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event. While halftime shows are a staple of the Super Bowl, they are not commonly seen in soccer. Typically, events like the Champions League final feature pre-match concerts instead. For instance, the Killers are scheduled to perform at the Champions League final on May 30, where Paris Saint-Germain will face Arsenal in Budapest.
Although the exact duration of the World Cup halftime show remains unknown, it is expected to adhere to the standard soccer interval, which should not exceed 15 minutes. FIFA describes this event as “a singular moment at the intersection of sport, culture and purpose, broadcast live around the world.” The World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, running throughout June and July.
