Fenerbahce has confirmed the transfer of Romelu Lukaku on a one-year deal with an option for another year. This move aims to strengthen the team's attacking lineup.

Fenerbahce has officially confirmed the signing of Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku on a 1+1 year contract, with the option for an additional year contingent on the club winning the league title. The announcement was made by Fenerbahce's football director, Oguz Cetin, who shared details during a presentation ceremony in Istanbul on August 14, 2026.

Details of the Transfer

Cetin revealed that Lukaku would arrive in Istanbul that evening to undergo a medical examination. He also addressed the player's recent injury issues, noting that Lukaku had been dealing with a recurring injury over the past year. This setback occurred while he was playing for Napoli last season, where he was fielded before fully recovering, under pressure from then-coach Antonio Conte.

Commitment to Fenerbahce

According to Cetin, Lukaku showed a strong desire to join Fenerbahce over other potential clubs and is committed to the team's title ambitions for the upcoming season. During negotiations, Lukaku agreed to make financial concessions, including waiving €2 million owed to him by Napoli and covering an additional €150,000 requested by the Italian club from his own funds.

Arrival and Future Goals

Upon arriving at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport from Brussels, Lukaku was welcomed by Cetin and several Fenerbahce officials. In statements to the press, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the club and emphasized his goal of helping the team secure the championship this season.

Romelu Lukaku, who is 33 years old, has had a prolific career, starting at Anderlecht and playing for several top clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Inter Milan. He has made 681 career appearances, scoring 316 goals, and has won numerous titles, including two Italian league titles and a FIFA Club World Cup. Additionally, he has represented the Belgian national team 132 times, netting 93 goals.
