Arsenal has finalized a £55 million transfer for defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, bolstering their defensive lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season. The England international's signing comes at a crucial time for the Premier League champions, with William Saliba facing an extended absence and Jurrien Timber also sidelined due to injury.

Konsa's arrival marks Arsenal's fifth significant signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, and Bruno Guimaraes. The club was in search of a new defender to strengthen their squad, particularly with Saliba and Timber unavailable for the foreseeable future.

Initially, Aston Villa sought £60 million for Konsa, but a compromise was reached between the two clubs. Arsenal had also considered Bayer Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah but ultimately opted for Konsa, who shares a similar profile and versatility, capable of playing both right-back and centre-back.
