Thomas Tuchel has officially submitted a provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup, featuring notable names such as Luke Shaw, Danny Welbeck, and Alex Scott. Additionally, Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold is also included in the preliminary list.

Provisional Squad Details

FIFA has allowed participating nations to present a long list of 55 players for the tournament, which is set to commence on June 11. Tuchel's next task will be to narrow this list down to a final squad of 26 players for the event taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. While the Football Association (FA) has yet to officially announce the provisional squad, they plan to reveal England's final selection on May 22.

Injury Concerns and Competition

Alexander-Arnold, Shaw, Welbeck, and Scott were previously omitted from Tuchel's squad for friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan, but they still have a chance to secure a spot on the flight across the Atlantic next month. Alexander-Arnold's inclusion is particularly intriguing given Tuchel's injury concerns at right-back. The former Liverpool player has faced stiff competition from Chelsea's Reece James, Newcastle's Tino Livramento, and Arsenal's Ben White for the position. However, White is currently a doubt for the World Cup due to a knee injury, while Livramento's availability remains uncertain, although there is optimism regarding his fitness.

Shaw, who has not represented England since the Euro 2024 final against Spain, is making a strong case for his return, having played 36 times for Manchester United this season. Meanwhile, Welbeck has been in good form for Brighton, contributing 14 goals this season, yet he has not yet been selected in one of Tuchel's squads. Bournemouth's Scott made his senior England squad debut in November but was not included in the previous selection.
