Devenish-Meares takes the helm of a star-studded team in the PFA A-League Men, highlighting his leadership and the exceptional talent within the league.

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) has unveiled its A-League Men Team of the Season, featuring a lineup of exceptional talent, including Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares, who has been named captain after receiving the highest number of votes from his peers.

Devenish-Meares Reflects on His Captaincy

Devenish-Meares expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “Just being part of the professional football community in Australia means the world to me, so to be named captain of the Team of the Season feels very humbling and honestly quite surreal.” He added, “To be recognised by my peers in this way is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”

Team Composition and Notable Players

The selected squad consists of 18 players and one coach, with five members set to compete in the upcoming A-League Men Grand Final. The team includes 15 players from the recent semi-finals, showcasing talent from Auckland FC, Adelaide United, Newcastle Jets, and Sydney FC. Notably, Devenish-Meares is joined by teammate Paul Okon-Engstler, who earned a spot on the bench following a successful return to Australia from Benfica’s B team.

Auckland FC's representation includes joint-Golden Boot winner Sam Cosgrove, defender Francis de Vries, and attacker Jesse Randall. Despite missing the Grand Final after a penalty shootout loss to Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets had seven players recognized in the PFA’s team, including centre-back Mark Natta and midfielder Max Burgess. Mark Milligan, who is in his debut season as the Jets' Head Coach, was also honored as the coach of the PFA’s team.

Additional Representations

Adelaide United features young talents Panagiotis Kikianis and Ethan Alagich in the starting lineup, while Melbourne City is represented by defenders Nathaniel Atkinson and Aziz Behich, along with attacker Marcus Younis. Melbourne Victory's star midfielder Juan Mata also made the cut.

The PFA Team of the Season employs a 4-3-3 formation, although the arrangement does not necessarily reflect the actual starting positions of the players. All selections were determined by votes from PFA A-League Men members at the end of the regular season.
