Demons, Bombers unveil special guernseys for Daniher tribute match
In a heartfelt tribute match, the Demons and Bombers have revealed special guernseys to honor Daniher's contributions to football and his community impact.

In a heartfelt tribute, Melbourne and Essendon will honor the late Neale Daniher during their match on Saturday afternoon. Daniher, who passed away recently after battling motor neurone disease, had a significant impact on both clubs, playing 82 games for Essendon from 1979 to 1990 and later coaching Melbourne from 1998 to 2007.
Special Guernseys and Pre-Match Ceremony
This match marks Melbourne's first home game in the city since Daniher's passing, and it is fitting that they face the Bombers. Both teams will don unique guernseys featuring the initials 'ND' on the front and Daniher's inspiring mantra, "Play On," emblazoned on the back. After the match, the worn guernseys will be auctioned, with all proceeds benefiting the FightMND campaign, which Daniher passionately supported.
Prior to the game, legends from both clubs will participate in a pre-match ceremony, delivering motivational speeches reminiscent of Daniher's powerful addresses as a player and coach. The atmosphere will be further charged by the playing of "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, Daniher's favorite song, just before the opening whistle.
Fan Participation and Acknowledgment
Fans will have the opportunity to join in the tribute during the first quarter, specifically at the six-minute mark, which symbolizes Daniher's No.6 jersey at Essendon. Attendees are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:45 PM for the pre-game ceremony, leading up to the first ball up at 1:15 PM.
This tribute follows the Big Freeze 12 celebrations held earlier, where Collingwood and Melbourne united to honor Daniher's legacy. St Kilda and Hawthorn also paid their respects in a match that took place shortly after his passing, marking the beginning of round 12.
