Davies included in 'best ever' Canada squad for the World Cup | beIN SPORTS

Alphonso Davies has earned a spot in the all-time best Canada squad for the World Cup, highlighting his significant impact on the national team.

Alphonso Davies has been named in Canada's squad for the upcoming World Cup, which is being co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Head coach Jesse Marsch is optimistic about the potential of the 26-man roster, suggesting it could be "one of the best" Canada has ever fielded in the tournament.

Key Players and Squad Composition

Davies, who plays for Bayern Munich, is the standout player in Marsch's selection, despite dealing with a hamstring injury sustained during a Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. Another notable inclusion is Jonathan David, who netted eight goals in 46 appearances for Juventus in the 2025-26 season. The squad also features 13 players from the previous World Cup in Qatar, where Canada was eliminated in the group stage after losing all three matches.

Injury Concerns and Squad Readiness

While some players are not at full fitness, Marsch remains confident in the squad's ability to perform on home soil. "I felt this was our current best squad and then, probably, one of the best ever squads if not the best squad that Canada has ever assembled at any one time," he stated. He acknowledged the ongoing concerns regarding player fitness but emphasized that many are close to being ready for the tournament. Notably, veteran Junior Hoilett has been left out of the squad.

Canada's first match is set for June 12 against Bosnia-Herzegovina at BMO Field. Before the tournament begins, the team will play friendly matches against Uzbekistan and the Republic of Ireland, as well as facing Qatar on June 18. Marsch believes that while not every player will be at 100% for the opening match, the core group will be strong and capable of improving as the tournament progresses.
