D.C. United has officially signed Romanian international forward Louis Munteanu from CFR Cluj in a permanent transfer deal. The 23-year-old will join the Black-and-Red as a Designated Player, pending the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Munteanu's contract is set for three and a half years, extending through the 2028-29 season, with an option for the 2029-30 season.

The transfer marks a significant investment for D.C. United, with a club-record fee of $7 million. Dr. Erkut Sogut, the Managing Director of Soccer Operations for D.C. United, expressed enthusiasm about Munteanu's arrival, stating, “Louis is a dynamic young forward whose finishing ability and versatility make him an excellent complement to our current attacking group.” Sogut highlighted Munteanu's movement off the ball, work rate, and goal-scoring instincts as key attributes that will enhance the team's attacking options.

Impressive Track Record

Munteanu joins D.C. United after a successful two-season stint with CFR Cluj, where he made a notable impact. After joining the Romanian club on July 31, 2024, he quickly made his mark by scoring a brace in his debut match on August 4, 2024. During his first season, he won the SuperLiga Golden Boot with 23 goals and contributed to CFR Cluj's Romanian Cup Championship, scoring in the final against FC Hermannstadt. Over his two seasons with the club, Munteanu made 63 appearances, netting 28 goals and providing nine assists, while also participating in UEFA competitions.

Before his time at CFR Cluj, Munteanu played for Fiorentina’s Primavera side, where he made 40 appearances and scored 13 goals. His successful youth career included winning the Coppa Italia Primavera and the Supercoppa Primavera in 2021. Munteanu also had a loan spell at his boyhood club, FCV Farul Constanta, where he played a crucial role in securing the Romanian league Championship.
