COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew have announced the signing of defender Eric Bailly, a free agent who recently played for Real Oviedo in Spain. Bailly brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent 12 seasons in both La Liga and the English Premier League. His contract with the Crew is guaranteed through June 2027, with options for the 2027-28 and 2028-29 MLS seasons. He will take up an international roster slot and will officially join the team once his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa are processed.

Bailly's Career Highlights

Bailly has a notable track record, having won the UEFA Europa League, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield during his career. He initially joined Manchester United ahead of the 2016-17 season, where he made 113 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist. During his time with the Red Devils, he played a key role in their UEFA Europa League-winning campaign, making 11 appearances, and featured in the EFL Cup-winning run.

Before his time at Manchester United, Bailly had stints with Villarreal, RCD Espanyol, Olympique de Marseille, and Beşiktaş. He first joined Villarreal in 2015, where he played 50 matches, and returned to the club in December 2023, adding 22 appearances. With Real Oviedo, he played 16 games and scored once. His international career with the Ivory Coast National Team includes 49 caps, two goals, and one assist, contributing to the team’s victory in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
