The Colorado Rapids have officially signed winger Georgi Minoungou from Seattle Sounders FC, enhancing their squad ahead of the new season.

In a significant move, the Colorado Rapids have announced the acquisition of winger Georgi Minoungou from Seattle Sounders FC. The transfer, which was finalized before the closing of the MLS Primary Transfer Window, involves a total of $2,000,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), divided equally between the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Seattle Sounders FC may retain a percentage of any future sale.
Excitement Surrounds New Signing
Colorado Rapids Sporting Director Fran Taylor expressed enthusiasm about Minoungou joining the team, highlighting his explosive playing style and ability to excel in one-on-one situations. “We are excited to welcome Georgi to the club,” Taylor stated. “There are few players like him in MLS, and we believe he’s a strong fit for how we want to play.”
Minoungou's Journey to Colorado
At just 23 years old, Minoungou has spent the last two seasons with Seattle, making 34 appearances across various competitions, including the MLS regular season and playoffs, as well as the Concacaf Champions Cup and the U.S. Open Cup. During his time with Seattle, he scored three goals and provided seven assists over 1,824 minutes of play. Notably, he contributed to Seattle's Leagues Cup 2025 championship run, participating in three matches and recording a goal and an assist.
Head Coach Matt Wells also shared his excitement about the new addition, noting Minoungou's speed and attacking capabilities. “He brings speed, attacking intent and the ability to stretch defenses, which is critical in how we want to play,” Wells remarked. “His willingness to take players on and create in wide areas will add another dimension to our attack.”
International Experience
Minoungou, originally from Batiebly-Douibly, Ivory Coast, began his career with the Tacoma Defiance in the MLS NEXT Pro after joining on loan from MFK Vyškov in the Czech National Football League. He made a strong impression in his debut season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in 18 appearances. Over three seasons with the Defiance, he made 43 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting nine times.
Since making a permanent move to Seattle in 2023, Minoungou has continued to develop, featuring in 24 matches and contributing three assists. This season, he has recorded two goals and three assists in 16 appearances. On the international stage, he is a current member of the Burkina Faso National Team, having made his debut in September 2025 and scoring two goals. He previously represented the Ivory Coast U-20 National Team.
