Chelsea has reached an agreement with young defender Calvin Diakite to sign his first professional contract with the club. The deal comes shortly after Diakite celebrated his 17th birthday earlier this month, highlighting Chelsea's commitment to securing their promising talent.

Details of the Agreement

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the professional contract will keep Diakite at Chelsea until June 2028. The England youth international has been an integral part of the club's U21 and U18 teams, as well as representing England at the youth level. Romano shared the news on X, stating, “Chelsea have agreed [a] pro deal with 17 year old talented defender Calvin Diakite.”

This season, Diakite has made 22 appearances in the U18 Premier League, contributing to Chelsea's position at the top of the South Division. Additionally, he has played twice in Premier League 2 since the start of the year and made his UEFA Youth League debut against Atalanta earlier this season. His versatility allows him to play both left-back and centre-back, and he is expected to transition to regular U21 football in the upcoming campaign.

International Experience

Diakite has also gained valuable experience on the international stage, having captained the England U17 team during matches against the Faroe Islands and Israel in March. He joins a growing list of Chelsea youngsters, including Reggie Walsh, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Chizaram Ezenwata, and Ibrahim Rabbaj, who have signed their first professional contracts this season.
