As Arsenal prepares for the Champions League 2026/27 season, we examine the potential opponents they could encounter, highlighting key matchups and rivalries.

As Arsenal prepares for the 2026/27 Champions League season, the club reflects on its recent success, including a strong performance that led to a second consecutive final appearance. Last season, Arsenal faced Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest, ultimately losing on penalties. However, the team’s triumph in securing its first Premier League title since 2004 ensures its return to the Champions League for a fourth consecutive year.
Champions League Format Overview
The upcoming season will continue with the league phase format, which was introduced in the 2025/26 edition. This format includes 36 teams, allowing each club to play eight matches—four at home and four away—against different opponents. The top eight teams will qualify directly for the knockout stage, while those finishing from ninth to 24th will enter a two-legged playoff to secure their places in the last 16. Notably, England and Spain earned additional spots in the league phase due to their clubs' strong performances in the previous season.
Qualified Teams for the 2026/27 Season
For the next Champions League campaign, five Premier League clubs will participate, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, all of which finished in the top five of the league. Spain will also have five representatives: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, and Real Betis. Italy and Germany will each contribute four teams, with Serie A's Napoli, Inter Milan, AS Roma, and Como qualifying, while the Bundesliga will see Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Stuttgart compete.
Additionally, France will be represented by three clubs: defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, along with Lens and Lille. The Netherlands will have two teams, with PSV and Feyenoord qualifying from the Eredivisie. Portugal's representatives include Porto and Sporting Lisbon, while Galatasaray from Turkey, Slavia Prague from the Czech Republic, and Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine also secured their spots by winning their domestic leagues. Club Brugge from Belgium rounds out the list of teams that qualified early. Furthermore, seven additional teams will join through the pre-season qualifiers, with the draws for the first and second qualifying rounds scheduled for June 16 and 17.
With the league phase set to kick off on September 8, Arsenal and its fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming challenges in Europe’s premier club competition.
