Carlos Queiroz Names Final Ghana World Cup Squad as Two Goalkeepers Miss Out

Carlos Queiroz has officially named the final squad for Ghana's World Cup campaign, excluding two goalkeepers from the selection. The team aims to make a significant impact in the tournament.

Ghana's head coach Carlos Queiroz has revealed his final 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with notable omissions including two goalkeepers. The selection process saw a few adjustments from the initial 28 players who participated in the training camp and a preparatory match against Wales.

Key Changes in the Squad

Defender Alexander Djiku from Spartak Moscow has had to withdraw from the squad due to injury. Additionally, Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi and Ajax's Paul Reverson were dropped from the provisional list. To fill the gap left by Djiku, Pafos defender Derrick Luckassen has been called up. Ghana will also miss the services of defender Mohammed Salisu and playmaker Mohammed Kudus, as both players could not recover from their injuries in time for selection.

Goalkeeping and Defensive Lineup

The goalkeeping trio for the tournament includes Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati Zigi from St. Gallen, and Joseph Anang of St. Patrick’s Athletic. While Asare has been the preferred choice in recent matches, the competition for the starting position remains open. In defense, the squad features Derrick Luckassen, Kojo Oppong Peprah (OGC Nice), Jonas Adjetey (Wolfsburg), Abdul Mumin (Rayo Vallecano), and Jerome Opoku (Istanbul Basaksehir) as center-back options. Marvin Senaya (Auxerre) and Alidu Seidu (Rennes) are set to play as right-backs, while Gideon Mensah (Auxerre) and Abdul Baba Rahman (PAOK) will occupy the left-back spots. Notably, Baba Rahman returns to the national team after nearly three years away.

Midfield and Forward Selections

The midfield will be anchored by veteran Thomas Partey, supported by Kwasi Sibo (Real Oviedo), Elisha Owusu (Auxerre), Augustine Boakye (Saint Etienne), and Caleb Yirenkyi (Nodsjaelland). This combination aims to provide a mix of experience and creativity as Ghana gears up for the tournament hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico. In the forward line, Queiroz has assembled a strong group, including Inaki Williams, to bolster the team's attacking options.

As the Black Stars finalize their preparations, the squad's composition reflects both experience and youthful energy, setting the stage for their World Cup campaign.
