Cape Verde's standout goalkeeper Vozinha has finalized an agreement to join Chilean club Colo Colo. The 40-year-old shot-stopper gained international recognition during the World Cup, particularly for his performance in a goalless draw against Spain, and is set to travel to Chile for a medical examination before his official unveiling, as confirmed by Colo Colo's president, Anibal Mosa.

World Cup Performance

Vozinha was a key figure in Cape Verde's World Cup journey, achieving three clean sheets during the group stage and helping the team advance to the knockout rounds. His impressive saves against formidable opponents, including defending champions Argentina, made him one of the most discussed players of the tournament. Following his remarkable displays, he was included in FIFA’s fan-selected World Cup dream team.

Colo Colo's Excitement

Mosa expressed confidence in Vozinha's abilities, stating that his World Cup performance warranted the transfer and also highlighted the marketing potential of the signing for Colo Colo. The club teased the acquisition on social media, sharing an image that showcased Vozinha's distinctive curly hair. He is expected to be presented at the Estadio Monumental after completing his medical checks.

Vozinha, whose full name is Josimar Jose Evora Dias, has also gained significant attention on social media, with his Instagram following skyrocketing from 50,000 to nearly 30 million, aided by Brazilian influencer Casimiro. His personal story has resonated with fans, particularly after his mother, Ana Candida Evora, faced challenges in obtaining a visa to watch him play. Fortunately, she was granted a visa after advocacy from US House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, allowing her to attend the World Cup.

Colo Colo, based in Santiago, is currently leading the Liga de Primera and is recognized as the most successful club in Chilean football, being the only team from the nation to have won the Copa Libertadores.
