Brisbane Roar has announced the signing of former captain Tom Aldred on a one-year contract as they prepare for the upcoming 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season. Aldred, an experienced defender, returns to Queensland after spending two successful seasons with Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Indian Super League, where he won both the ISL Shield and ISL Cup in the 2024/25 season.

Aldred's Previous Tenure with Brisbane Roar

The 34-year-old defender previously played for Brisbane Roar from the 2019/20 season to the 2023/24 season, making a total of 116 competitive appearances. During his time with the club, he captained the team and was instrumental in leading them to two Finals Series appearances and the 2023 Australia Cup Final. Aldred was also recognized for his contributions by winning the Gary Wilkins Medal as Brisbane’s Player of the Year in the 2022/23 season.

Returning as a Domestic Player

Having become an Australian citizen in 2024, Aldred returns to the Roar as a domestic player, which means he will not occupy a visa spot in the squad. Expressing his enthusiasm about rejoining the club, Aldred stated, “When the opportunity came up to return to the Roar, the decision was an easy one.” He added that his family enjoyed living in Brisbane and expressed eagerness to reconnect with the fans and give his best for the club.

Brisbane Roar's Sporting Director, James Gow, highlighted Aldred’s leadership and experience as significant assets for the team. He noted, “Tom is really passionate about Brisbane Roar and understands the culture we have worked to instil in the playing group.” Aldred will don the No.5 shirt and is expected to arrive in Brisbane this weekend to join the squad for pre-season training.
