The Spaniard's flight from San Sebastian landed at Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Thursday morning, and he is expected to finalize a two-year contract with the Reds after reaching a verbal agreement.

Appointment Following Slot's Departure

The 43-year-old Iraola was chosen as Liverpool's preferred candidate after the club decided to part ways with Premier League title winner Slot, who had been in charge for just two years. Iraola, a free agent after leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season, previously led the club to European qualification for the first time in its history during his three-year tenure.

Background and Coaching Experience

Discussions regarding the managerial position were spearheaded by Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes, who had previously appointed Iraola at Bournemouth. As a player, Iraola was a right-back, primarily known for his time at Athletic Bilbao. He began his managerial journey with a short stint at AEK Larnaca in Cyprus, followed by a year at Mirandes in the Spanish second tier, and then a successful three-year period at Rayo Vallecano, where he achieved promotion to La Liga and reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Although Iraola has yet to win a major trophy as a player or manager, his high-intensity, attack-focused style of play has garnered attention in the Premier League.
