Bournemouth has officially announced the signing of Portuguese international centre-back Antonio Silva from Benfica for a fee that could rise to £25.7 million. The transfer is structured as an initial payment of £21.4 million, with an additional £4.3 million in potential add-ons.

Addressing Defensive Needs

This acquisition comes in response to Bournemouth's recent loss of Marcos Senesi, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer earlier in the summer. Silva, who emerged from Benfica's academy, has made 235 senior appearances since his breakthrough in 2022. During this time, he has secured six major trophies, including Portugal's victory in the 2025 Nations League. His impressive performances earned him the title of Primeira Liga's Defender of the Year for the 2022-23 season, highlighting his rapid ascent in European football.
