Borussia Dortmund reach agreement in principle for Konstantinos Karetsas | Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund has finalized an agreement in principle for the transfer of Konstantinos Karetsas. This move aims to enhance their roster ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

It appears that Borussia Dortmund is close to securing the signing of Konstantinos Karetsas, as confirmed by managing director Lars Ricken from the club's pre-season training camp in Japan. Ricken stated that there is "an agreement in principle between Gent, the player and us," indicating that the transfer is progressing smoothly.

Future Star in the Making

The 18-year-old Karetsas is anticipated to fill the void left by Julian Brandt, who recently departed the club. Dortmund aims to enhance their attacking midfield options with a player who brings both creativity and technical skill. Although the transfer has not been officially announced, Ricken mentioned that fans can expect an update after the team's pre-season tour in Japan. He expressed optimism, saying, "Of course, we are hoping and are also firmly assuming that – when we return from Japan – he will hopefully be able to join the team."

Impressive Track Record

Karetsas has already made a name for himself in the Belgian Pro League, where he scored three goals and provided 11 assists in 28 appearances last season. Additionally, he contributed seven assists across all competitions. On the international stage, he has earned 10 caps for Greece since making his competitive debut in March 2025, with three goals and one assist to his name. Ricken emphasized that Karetsas is not just a future prospect but a player who can make an immediate impact, stating, "Konstantinos is a player who can immediately make a sporting impact with his quality."

If the transfer is finalized as anticipated, Karetsas could make his competitive debut for Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern Munich on August 22. Following that, the Black-Yellows will kick off their Bundesliga campaign at home against Hamburg. Karetsas will be the fourth signing of the summer for Dortmund, joining Joane Gadou, Justin Lerma, and Kauã Prates, as the squad undergoes significant changes this season.
