New York City FC has officially signed Ivory Coast winger Benie Traore from Swiss champions Basel in a permanent transfer valued at 8.75 million. The 23-year-old player has committed to a contract with the MLS club that runs until June 30, 2030.
Traore's Impressive Track Record
Traore joins NYCFC following a successful two-season stint in Switzerland, where he played a key role in helping Basel secure both the league title and the Swiss Cup during the 2024-25 season. Primarily operating as a left winger, Traore has made 66 appearances in the Swiss Super League, netting 22 goals and providing 11 assists.
A Journey Through European Football
Born in Bouake, Traore began his professional career with ASEC Mimosas before moving to Sweden to play for BK Hacken in 2021. His time in the Allsvenskan was marked by 15 goals and five assists in 41 league matches, culminating in a Swedish Cup victory in 2023. Traore then made a move to England, signing with Sheffield United in 2023, which included a loan spell at Nantes in France's Ligue 1 during the 2023-24 season. He transferred to Basel in July 2024, where his performances increased his market value to 8 million.
Standing at 1.72 meters, Traore becomes one of New York City FC's most significant signings as he completes his move from Basel on July 13, 2026.
