FC Barcelona has officially announced the acquisition of English winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a fee of €70 million. The 25-year-old has signed a six-year contract, making him the third English player to don the Barcelona jersey, following in the footsteps of Gary Lineker and Marcus Rashford.

Gordon's transfer was confirmed on May 30, 2026, after he successfully underwent a medical examination the previous day. The deal includes an additional €10 million in performance-related incentives. Although the signing was delayed by seven hours due to issues with legal paperwork, the club was pleased to finalize the agreement.

Gordon's Dream Move

During his presentation at the Spotify Nou Camp, Gordon expressed his excitement about joining Barcelona, stating, "I was excited to play for Barca since I was three years of age." He also shared his motivation for learning Spanish, saying, "I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play football for Barca." Gordon's enthusiasm for the club was evident, as he declared, "Barca are the biggest club on the planet. It is stuff I dreamed [about] as a child."

Prior to his move, Gordon had a notable performance against Barcelona in the Champions League group stage, scoring Newcastle's only goal in a 2-1 loss. His arrival at Barcelona could influence the club's decision regarding Marcus Rashford's loan from Manchester United, especially as they are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez.
