Fremantle Dockers are poised for a historic representation in the All-Australian team, with eight players making the shortlist for this year's selection. This marks the largest number of Dockers named in the All-Australian extended list since the concept was introduced in 2007.

Dockers' Strong Showing

The eight Fremantle players included in the 46-man extended list are Luke Jackson, Shai Bolton, Alex Pearce, Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss, Murphy Reid, Caleb Serong, and Jordan Clark. Their nominations come after a successful minor premiership campaign, positioning Fremantle to potentially have four or more players selected for the All-Australian team for the first time.

Previously, the Dockers have had three players selected in the same season on two occasions: in 2003 with Matthew Pavlich, Peter Bell, and Paul Hasleby, and in 2014 with Nat Fyfe, Aaron Sandilands, and Hayden Ballantyne. This year's eight nominations are the highest of any club, surpassing the previous record of eight set by Richmond in 2018.

Competition and Expectations

In comparison, reigning champions Brisbane had six players named, while Fremantle's quarter-final opponents, Hawthorn, had five. Sydney managed to secure two nominations, while West Coast, along with Essendon and Richmond, did not have any players nominated.

Luke Jackson is widely regarded as a strong candidate for his first All-Australian blazer, while Shai Bolton is expected to join him, adding to his previous selection in 2022. Caleb Serong, a three-time All-Australian, aims to follow in the footsteps of Matthew Pavlich, who was selected for four consecutive seasons.

The All-Australian team will be revealed at an AFL awards night on Tuesday, alongside the Rising Star winner and the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year award.
