Algeria international Mehdi Merghem completes Dundee United transfer
Mehdi Merghem, the Algerian international, has officially joined Dundee United, enhancing the team's roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Algeria international Mehdi Merghem has finalized his transfer to Dundee United, marking a fresh start after a challenging period at Bastia, which concluded with the club's relegation from Ligue 2.
New Beginnings in Scotland
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a two-year contract with the Scottish Premiership side. Merghem's recent career has seen him play for four different clubs in just two seasons, making this move an opportunity to rebuild after a turbulent spell that began with his departure from Guingamp in the summer of 2024.
Merghem's journey included a brief stint at Portuguese club Farense, followed by a return to Algeria to join USM Alger. He then moved to JS Kabylie last summer in a transfer reportedly valued at nearly €300,000, aimed at strengthening the squad after the exit of key players like Kouceila Boualia. At JS Kabylie, Merghem quickly became a vital part of the team and earned a spot on Algeria’s A’ national team under coach Madjid Bougherra, participating in the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Challenges at Bastia
His decision to join Bastia, however, did not yield the desired results. After just six months, the club faced relegation to France’s third division, prompting Merghem to seek new opportunities. With the help of his Algerian-British agent, Riad Djellab, Merghem has now secured his place at Dundee United, where he aims to move past recent frustrations and establish himself in a new league.
As he embarks on this new chapter, Merghem hopes that his two-year deal with Dundee United will provide the stability he has been seeking and allow him to regain the form that brought him international acclaim prior to his struggles at Bastia.
