Melbourne City is reportedly nearing a significant transfer as they engage in discussions to sign Emiliano Marcondes, a former Premier League midfielder. This development comes after Marcondes' contract with Norwich City expired, and he is now set to potentially join the A-League Men side.

According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the 31-year-old midfielder, who has previously played for Bournemouth, Brentford, and Norwich, is close to finalizing the move to Melbourne City. Last season, Marcondes made 16 appearances in the Championship, scoring once and providing two assists. To maintain his fitness while searching for a new club, he has been training with MLS side San Diego FC.

In a previous interview with Tipsbladet, Marcondes expressed his openness to joining San Diego, stating, “Well, it’s certainly not something I’m against, and I also follow their matches a lot.” However, reports indicate that San Diego FC has decided not to offer him a contract, which clears the path for his potential move to Australia.

He has an impressive track record, with over 330 appearances and 69 goals since debuting for FC Nordsjaelland in the 2013/14 season.
